And there’s more: from now on and throughout 2026, you can enjoy the light and music shows every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from 9PM to 10PM.
Whether it’s your first time in Barcelona or you’re revisiting the city, witnessing the Magic Fountain show is truly an unforgettable experience.
The Magic Fountain, a well-known symbol of Barcelona, continues to hold a special place in the hearts of locals and visitors. The fountain, a colossal structure featuring 3,620 water jets and 4,760 lights, can propel water up to 52 meters high, creating a truly mesmerizing spectacle.
Update: The Magic Fountain of Montjuïc Reopend since September 2025
After a long pause due to drought restrictions, the Magic Fountain of Montjuïc is lighting up Barcelona once again. The city announced in 2024 that the famous light and music shows will resume in September 2025, just in time for the Festa de la Mercè, Barcelona’s biggest annual festival.
What has changed?
The reopening was part of a phased plan to restore all of Barcelona’s ornamental fountains. The Magic Fountain falls under Phase 2, which included not just the reopening but also important upgrades.
New technology is installed in the hydraulic and control systems.
Energy-efficient LED lighting replaced the old lighting system, improving sustainability and visual performance.
Why Was It Closed?
Like many other public water features, the fountain was shut down as a water-saving measure during the city’s response to drought conditions.
When and Where to See It?
Every Thursday, Friday, Saturday evening from 21.00 h. – 22.00 h.
You’ll find the fountain right between Plaça d’Espanya and the Palau Nacional (MNAC), at the base of Montjuïc Hill. The area offers a stunning view of the illuminated fountain with the majestic museum in the background.
